Pick Our Vacation

[I don’t really know who reads this blog, other than a handful of family members and a few friends, but I am open to input from anyone and everyone. ....Anyone??]

Jeremy and I are going to take a trip. Just a little three or four day excursion, sometime in early to mid-December, just to get away by ourselves (I’m not going to specify the exact dates in case any burglars read my blog.)

We have narrowed down our choices but every time we think we have decided on one of them, we change our minds again. So please help us out by leaving a comment with your vote (any explanation with the reason(s) for your choice would be appreciated too). This will really be a big help. Thanks…we’ll send you a postcard.

Option 1: New York City (fun Christmas shopping, ice skating, browsing bookstores--Jeremy's favorite thing to do, Magnolia Bakery in Greenwich Village, maybe something Broadway, bundled up strolls around Central Park—very romantic)

Option 2: Boston/Maine--emphasis on Maine (I have always wanted to go to Maine and Jeremy has never been before either…Bed and Breakfast, little shops, cozy café’s and the idea of someplace quaint is appealing to both of us, however it’s going to be very cold we’re thinking. Sometimes Jeremy does not enjoy being cold and tends to be expressive about it...even though I have offered to knit him a scarf.)

Option 3: Northern California (I can show Jeremy the places I spent time when I was young, and there’s always Sausalito Island, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square. Lots of nostalgia, and it will be warm, and they have sourdough bread.)

Option 4: Savannah, Georgia (Jeremy has just finished reading “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," so he’s intrigued. It sounds like fun to me too, being that we love New Orleans, and I am sure it will be a great place to begin the holiday season---though maybe a little spooky at the same time. One plus is that we can drive there. Actually, maybe that’s a minus?

...And that is all.

I don't sell candles, nor style custom car badges...just love your blog! Actually, I write grants, and love to read...you love to write, so Voila'! (that may be a little like the flying Wandellas in spelling, but the intent is pure... :)

I vote to NOT go to Maine this time of year. Check out the cover article from National Geographic on their website, you can enjoy the cold mist and absolutely beautiful photography from the comfort of your home. Hint: Cold AND Wet, not good weather for J's guitar either. Summer would be a better time there, perhaps.

Hmmmm...If you love to ski, there is always Montana : ), otherwise, go for Savannah, as I have never been there, and would love to hear you write about it. Stay away from deserted beach towns, as they are always depressing in a way in the off season, but would make a quiet get-away, and solitude would pretty much be guaranteed.

I can't remember now how I came across your blog, but I'm pretty sure it was recommended by some other blogger I read. Anyway, your blog is on my permanent RSS feed because of the poetic way you paint word pictures so beautifully, so reflectively. There is a quiet and gentle tone to your writing that feeds my soul, sort of like sitting down with a cup of coffee and some mellow acoustic music and enjoying the moment. The Lord has given you a gift that you're sharing with others, for His glory.

I've got to agree with julie about Maine, but that's just because I'm not a cold-weather person. I hear Savannah has got a lot of character, and obviously a lot of history, and charm, too. Oh, and good food. But the best thing is that because you'll be with Jeremy, you really can't go wrong with wherever you decide to go. (Now I'm hearing Billy Joel sing "wherever we're together, that's my home...").

This may surprise you coming from me but I vote New York City. Johnny and I really want to travel there one day, too.

New York City, all the way. It's cold, but it's so much fun during the Christmas season.

I vote for California. I think it would be a very meaningful and timely trip to be able to tangibly recall your history and memories there, and to share them with Jeremy as well.

I've never read your blog until today (I found Jeremy's through Eric Peters site and then meandered over here as well...) but I'd vote for Savannah for a fun, quiet getaway.

I currently live in GA, so I may be biased, but I am not a cold weather person so ME is definitely out. My husband used to travel there for business and he said it is miserable in the winter. NY is fun and I've always wanted to go during the holidays, but it sounds like you might want a more relaxing vacation. We went to NY in the summer once and it was the most rushed-feeling vacation ever. But that may have been a fluke.

I vote Savannah because though I've never been there (yet) I know plenty of people who have and say it is fantastic. The weather's still nice (I always love the beach when it is cold anyway) and there are all sorts of interesting shops, buildings, historical cemeteries, parks, and restaurants. It has character.

Have fun deciding...and enjoy the trip!

i think NY all the way! how fun would it be to see it at christmas time.....rockefellar center (i've always wanted to see that tree!), all the lights, rushing into cafes to sip on coffee curled up in your scarves....fun! although i've been to boston and maine -- and they are both amazing (and i know your dream about maine :))....i think this time of year would not be the best...brrrrr

"Just to get away by ourselves" knocks California out...Besides, make that trip when Jake is born. New York and Boston are great subway practice cities before your trip to Europe. Anyone can manage Savannah.....
