on saturday, we had a little celebration with a few close friends.
eli turned one at the end of january, but we were without a house in which to host a party (& he had a cold) so a real celebration would have to wait. jeremy's birthday was on sunday, so being the efficient mother/wife i occasionally am, i thought we'd make it a party-for-two. it was also a housewarming of sorts which made it even better.
we grilled hamburgers & hot dogs and filled buckets with root beer (& other beer). i whipped up batches of eli's favorite mac 'n cheese and jeremy's favorite brownies. the cake was a-la-duncan-hines---my days of over-achieving, all but diminished. there were rides on Eli's rocking horse, bouncing balls, and colorful balloons.
by 7:30, most of the kids were tugging at their parents' legs, tired and ready to go home. how times have changed...
after the guests were gone and we were sweeping up cake crumbs, jeremy and i reflected on how we've known most of these friends for nearly a decade, and what a curious thing it is to all be together in this child-filled phase of life. gone are the days of staying up into the wee hours of night; most of the adults were yawning right along with their kids as they headed out the door, balloons in hand.

we have come a long way since the 'fountainview apt' days! :) i have been blessed to have you as a friend through so many different phases of life :) and what a wonderful party!... you are still, as always, an amazing hostess :)
I love your photography...the way the pictures make me see things differently.
Oh, and happy birthday to the boys...
That's quite a (cute) party! And the perfect way to officially break in your house. We did the same with Johnny's 40th.
:)
